My ankle was injured three weeks ago. My husband and I were camping and we were setting up our pop-up and there is like a two -nch drop off from the pavement to the ground and I must’ve been really close to that and my foot just hit it and I went over.
I don’t even remember what I did. All I remember is that I rolled on the ground holding my foot. I didn’t think I broke the foot because it wasn’t swollen or black and blue. I thought I just sprained it, but after a couple days hobbling around, I knew that there was something serious. So we came to the emergency room when we got back.
The emergency room doctor said that I had fractured one of the bones in my foot. The treatment options for my injured foot, first of all, was to put it in a cast and take X-rays every two weeks, and follow up with orthopedics to see if it’s healing. They said if it does not heal, then there is an option of surgery.
After my cast comes off, I’m sure the orthopedics will recommend physical therapy for me to get movement and strength back into the foot and to the leg.
The type of support I get from my family and friends has been tremendous. They really helped out. The nurses and the techs at work are always willing to do things for me so I wouldn’t have to get up and move. My family’s been very supportive. My husband – he cooks. I go home and prop my foot up and he cooks and serves me dinner. So, that’s not a bad idea.
